Forward emails to Twist

Anyone can post to any Twist thread via email. This is especially useful if you work with an external contractor or client who’s not part of your Twist team.

Here’s how to forward emails to a Twist thread, and you can read some common questions about email forwarding below.

  1. Open the thread you’d like to send emails to.
  2. Click on the three dots icon in the top-right of the thread pane.
  3. Click Get Thread Email.
  4. An email address will appear. Press Copy to copy it to your clipboard.
  5. Now, you can forward any email to this address to post the content to the Twist thread. To do this, go to your email inbox, select the email you want to forward to Twist, then paste the copied email address into the "to" section, and press send.
  6. The email content will show up in your thread within a few minutes.

FAQs

Here are a few common questions about forwarding emails to Twist:

Q: Can anybody use the forwarding email address to post a comment to the thread? What if someone sends an email from an account that is not part of my team?

A: Yes, anyone can use the forwarding email address to post to a thread in Twist.

However, if you were the one who first got the link by clicking Get thread email, every comment posted using this email address will have you as the author. So if you shared the email address with a friend and they used it to post a comment, the comment will show you as the author.

Also, all notifications and replies to the comment will go to you.  That makes sense, because if your friend isn't on your Twist team, they won't be able to log in and look at the comment and replies themselves, anyway.

Q: Is it possible to reply to or communicate with external users using email forwarding? Is there two-way email integration or is it just one-way?

A: Our email integration is one-way only: you can post a comment to a thread through email. There is no way to communicate back out using email forwarding. 

If you want to communicate with an external user from Twist, the best way is to invite them as a guest.
